Whoopi Goldberg

Caryn Elaine Johnson, besser bekannt als Whoopi Goldberg, ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin und Moderatorin.

Direkt mit ihrem Debütfilm Die Farbe Lila (Steven Spielberg) feiert Goldberg Mitte der 80er Jahre ihren Durchbruch. Für die Darstellung einer afroamerikanischen Frau Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts wird sie mit einer Oscarnominierung bedacht. In den folgenden Jahren zählt Whoopi Goldberg zu den gefragtesten Schauspielerinnen in ganz Hollywood. Zwar ist sie vor allem für Komödien wie Jumpin’ Jack Flash und Sister Act – Eine himmlische Karriere bekannt, jedoch wird sie erst für die Nebenrolle als Medium in dem romantischen Drama Ghost – Nachricht von Sam mit einem Oscar ausgezeichnet. Sie erhält den Preis erst als zweite farbige Schauspielerin überhaupt.

In den folgenden Jahren kann Whoopi Goldberg zwar nicht mehr ganz an die Erfolge der 90er anknüpfen, feiert mit Engagements in Filmen wie Durchgeknallt und Rat Race – Der nackte Wahnsinn jedoch Achtunsgerfolge. 1994 wird ihr als erster Afro-Amerikanerin die Ehre zu Teil Moderatorin der Academy Awards zu sein. Seit 2007 ist sie die Moderatorin der beliebten US-Talkshow The View.
