Will Kane, the sheriff of a small town in New Mexico, learns a notorious outlaw he put in jail has been freed, and will be arriving on the noon train. Knowing the outlaw and his gang are coming to kill him, Kane is determined to stand his ground, so he gathers a posse from among the local townspeople.

Super Western, tout l’intérêt du film tiens dans cette tension suffocante qui monte au fur et à mesure que le temps passe. Un Marshall attend l’arrivée d’un homme qu’il avait envoyé en prison et qui veut se venger. Il essaye de monter une équipe pour l’aider, mais la ville qui le célébrait au début du film devient celle qui le rejette. Il se retrouve seul pour faire face à 4 hommes et à la mort.
