Kingdom of China, Xᵉ century. Two enemy clans clash: the Song, a royal dynasty, and the Khitan, a nomadic warrior people. Qiao Feng (Donnie Yen) of the Song clan is a respected chivalrous hero, a master of martial arts. As a baby, Qiao Feng, born in Khitan, loses his parents and is sent to be raised by a couple from the Song Empire, which is at war with the Liao Empire led by Khitan.
Qiao Feng grows up and becomes the powerful leader of the beggars' sect. However, he was accused of the murder of deputy leader Ma Dayuan by his wife Kang Min and was expelled from the sect after discovering his origin. He was also accused of the murders of his parents. To prove his innocence, he embarks on a long journey, full of extraordinary battles, between demigods and semi-demons.
