Lena e Daniel, una giovane coppia, rimangono coinvolti nel colpo di stato militare cileno del 1973. Quando Daniel è rapito dalla polizia segreta di Pinochet, Lena si mette sulle sue tracce in una zona off limits a sud del Paese, chiamata Colonia Dignitad. Agli occhi di tutti, la colonia si presenta come una missione di carità gestita da un predicatore laico di nome Paul Schäfer. In realtà, è un luogo da cui nessuno è mai fuggito via. Per ritrovare Daniel, Lena deciderà di unirsi al culto.
