About this movie

This is a story of a young man's no-holds-barred love affair. Tom still believes in the notion of a transforming, cosmically destined, lightning-strikes-once kind of love. Summer, the girl, doesn't. But that doesn't stop Tom from going after her, again and again, like a modern Don Quixote. Suddenly, Tom is in love not just with a lovely, witty, intelligent woman but with the very idea of Summer, the very idea of a love that still has the power to shock the heart and stop the world.

I rented this movie because the description caught my attention. I was curious, but didn't expect much. I found that I really liked the film, though. The story is one I could relate to, based on something from my younger days. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel did an outstanding job playing Tom and Summer. I liked how it was out of sequence, seeming to be spun out according to levels of emotional impact upon Tom. Kept my attention and wardrobe was cool. Support acting very good.

Yet another hour and a half of misogyny churned out by Hollyweird. Funny too because this picture features a clip from 'Mrs Robinson', perhaps one of the most misogynistic films of all time. Amazing that this type of subject (females presented as simple/complicated, careless, daffy, pretty things) appears again and again with new sparkling faces and foxy soundtracks. Same thing different decade. Mr. Levitt and Ms. Deschanel are wonderful actors. Pity they appeared in this turd of a motion picture.

I read a lot of the reviews about this saying it was misogynistic. It's not. You aren't looking at the whole movie. This is focused on two people going through a brief relationship and the problems from mostly one point of view. That character goes through a development and realised they were wrong.
