About this movie

The timeless fairy tale as presented by the visionary director of Brotherhood Of The Wolf. Journeying across the perilous countryside, a struggling merchant stumbles upon the magical domain of the fearsome Beast (Vincent Cassel, Black Swan), who sentences him to death for stealing a rose. The merchant’s youngest daughter Belle (Léa Seydoux, Spectre) bravely sacrifices herself and takes her father’s place. Once at the Beast’s castle, it is not death that awaits Belle, but a strange and fantastical life unlike anything she has ever experienced…and the discovery that her mysterious host is living under a terrible enchantment. As Belle valiantly attempts to release the Beast from his curse, the two discover that a most unlikely bond blooms between them…true love.
Visually stunning and magnificently produced, Beauty And The Beast (La Belle Et La Bête) is a rich and thoroughly modern interpretation of one of the world’s most beloved stories, artfully told by director Christophe Gans.

The only con to this movie was that it feels like the story is a little rushed. I wonder if the french is translated for meaning - - if I understood french I think that the dialogue untraslated may have made more sense. However, except for that, this movie was everything I was hoping Disney would have done in their live-action remake. This movie had elaborate and rich scenes and an amazing story. The settings are so well detailed it is really easy to get lost in the film just enjoying the settings of the castle. The beast was done very well without looking fake and the camera work was fantastic. It may be a little bit dark for very young children but it is a splendid rendition of the Beauty and the Beast story.

It is pretty good. I wish I had kept it French and used English subtitles, the voice actors were not good and failed to capture the emotion. Belle isn't too likeable at first. I wish they had played around more with the development of her relationship with the Beast. I liked it for the imagery and it's fearlessness with taking out the villains. Vincent Cassel is amazing. They kept elements of the original, added what I think were elements of the Disney movie, and added their own spin. I like epics and fantasy, so visually, this fit right in. Definitely something for Beauty and the Beast fans.

Beautifully done. The english voice acting just about ruined the whole thing though. Needs to have a french version with subtitles available. The graphics and story are very well done and stunning. My biggest complaint besides the english voice over is that they didn't spend enough time on Belle and the beast's relationship to show the time passing and how they really fell in love. It's like they glossed over it and said, here's a really cool backstory but we don't need to know how these two really get to know one another. The audience already knows what's going to happen, why show them how it happens. I'm conflicted on how I feel about the whole thing now.
