About this movie

Matthew McConaughey gives the performance of his career in this uplifting and powerful film inspired by true events. Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) sees his free-wheeling life overturned when he's diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. Determined to survive, Woodroof decides to take matters in his own hands by tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. After finding an unlikely ally in Rayon (Jared Leto), he establishes a hugely successful "buyers' club" and unites a band of outcasts in a struggle for dignity and acceptance that inspires in ways no one could have imagined. Co-starring Jennifer Garner, Dallas Buyers Club is "deeply moving. A livewire of a movie!" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) (Original Title - Dallas Buyers Club)

Although I want to feed Matthew McConaughey a sandwich because of the scary lengths he went to drop down to nearly 120 lbs for this role, his acting in this movie is phenomenal. It is a poignant, raw look into the 1980s HIV/AIDS epidemic and an expose of how treatment for it's victims was backwards in our government (and for drugs with many other conditions/diseases still is today because of the stronghold the pharmaceutical companies have over the FDA). I enjoyed how there was still humor laced in with the fight of survival because it helped keep my interest throughout without distracting from the triumphant fight for survival. It was very accurate in depicting how misinformed the public was in the transmission of the HIV virus as just a "gay disease". The most touching thing in this movie to me was how ignorance gradually broke down its walls and transformed into genuine understanding and acceptance between the main characters. I never write movie reviews because I have the attention span of a bird, so anything more than an hour better not be a snoozefest. However, Dallas Buyers Club kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. This is hands down a must see film.

The movie itself is well written, the acting is excellent, the best thing about this movie that stands out is the fact that he went above and beyond what any human being should do to stop the disease, something that he didn't understand nor when when it came to others was very intolerant.

Great movie. It makes you feel in a way you normally wouldn't feel. The characters are well developed and are truly played as real human beings. It depicts exactly what happened in the beginning of the aids epidemic. It shows how far one will go to save his own life and realize it's not only his life he's saving but the ones he has been in judgment of. Gay men. Transsexuals and women who got infected by the disease. Worth watching over and over again.
