Initially when I discovered that Matthew Mccanaughey was starring I had my trepidations, but they were immediately dispelled within the first twenty minutes. This is a glamour less performance that does not rely on his usual charming gimmicks, it's a definite sign that he wants to be take more seriously as an artist. The rest of the cast was great as well especially the character Neckbone... You'll grow to love his razor sharp wit. Overall, it's a must see.

REALIZUM IS WHAT YOU GET WITH THIS MOVIE and an original script . Give me more movies like this one . They left out the special effects which made the movie very believable. This was a GREAT movie!! The very best Matthew MaConaughey he should be up for an Oscar...As well as Tye Sheridan. This boy can act!!

The theme of love sewn into each of the characters lives as they impact each other really gives the sense that Mud and Juniper are the star crossed lovers, but young Ellis' view of love is being developed amid the controversy at home, and his experience interacting with girls of his age group. The morals and values of these characters reminds me of Tom Sawyer and the moral compass of independent life on the Mississippi.
