About this movie

In the film that launched the career of the greatest dance team of all time, hearts will be broken, love will triumph over all--and one of the most fabulous musical numbers ever will be staged atop the wings of an airliner Flying Down to Rio. Bandleader Roger Bond (Gene Raymond) and his band, The Yankee Clippers, are fired from their gig in Miami when he flirts with the lady guests--especially with the beautiful Brazilian Belinha De Rezende (Dolores del Rio). But arriving in Rio de Janiero, Roger must vie with Belinha's beau, Julio Rubiero (Raul Roulien), for the lady's heart.

Film newcomer Fred Astaire and star on the rise Ginger Rogers among the supporting players. Fred is Fred. He is a long time stage performer, and his stage persona has been polished by this point. Ginger is still in her hottie chorus girl phase. If you only know her from her later movies, you might be surprised. The movie is entertaining on it's own. And then Fred and Ginger do a number together, and a legendary screen "team" is born.
