About this movie

When three Texas University students travel to a Mexican border town on the eve of their graduation, the last thing they expect is to face their own deaths. Without warning, they fall prey to an ancient blood cult hellbent on finding candidates for human sacrifice. Based on true events, BORDERLAND tells a story which blends the raw fear of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE with the stark reality of IN COLD BLOOD, evoking a world soaked in paranoia, fear and dread.

Great psychological horror. Each character was nicely distinctive and demonstrated and important role in conveying the story. No one was superfluous. Actors performances were great. I would call them late 20s, responsible American men going to Mexico on one last trip together before serious life begins. As they converse together about their future plans, they end up crossing paths with a powerful Mexican group that sees them as merely a sack of human flesh, worthy only as something to be sacrificed in their rituals to maintain the leaders hold on worldly power.

I thought Borderland was a compelling and well-crafted film. Instead of falling into the torture porn genre, it slowly and steadily creeps into a psychologically terrifying story. Mostly because Santillan was a real person who really committed some of the acts portrayed in the film.
