About this movie

A college professor (Al Pacino), who moonlights as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI, receives a death threat that says he has only 88 minutes to live. To save his life, he must use all his skills and training to narrow down the possible suspects, which include a disgruntled student, a jilted former lover and a serial killer on death row. The film would make a moticom of intelligence it were called 8 HOURS, but as it stands the plot is totally unplausable-- it would take longer than 88 minutes for the plot to unfold the way it did (8 hours perhaps?). I enjoyed Pacino. Even HE seemed bored with the role and maybe dialed in his performance a bit, but even so he blew everyone else off the screen acting wise. The ending is ridiculous. The plot is ridiculous. The glaring red herrings are ridiculous. I saw this movie when it first came out On Demand years ago, and then again last week. It held my attention both times, but still, I can't recommend it to anyone unless they love Pacino. Not his best film by a long shot. But he brought SOMETHING to this screenplay that I enjoyed (it wasn't his hair, that's for sure). This movie has possibly the worst ending of any film I've seen. 88 Minutes? I think not. Great idea. Poorly executed. (Note: I'm usually loathe to give negative reviews, but this film warrants my reasoning for a generous 3 stars.)
