About this movie

Casablanca: easy to enter, but much harder to leave, especially if you're wanted by the Nazis. Such a man is Resistance leader Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), whose only hope is Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a cynical American who sticks his neck out for no one, especially Victor's wife Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), the ex-lover who broke his heart. Ilsa offers herself in exchange for Laszlo's transport out of the country and bitter Rick must decide what counts more - personal happiness or countless lives hanging in the balance. All so brilliant. I was expecting to give some cheap laughs and respectful nods due to the age, but I was swept up by the end of it. Some story turns were a tad predictable, but there was plenty of charm and intelligent writing to keep me hooked. The rich dialogue is timeless as ever. Recommended for any writer or film lover.

Some of the best quotes come from this movie. It deserves more than just a measly 5 stars. It's Bogart and Bergman. Films don't get much better than this. I've seen it 100s of times and could see it 1000x more

One of the elite films of all time. Rich, deep characters. Well told story with twists and turns, including the ending. This movie is invariably on everyone's top 10 of all time list and it belongs there. Oh and b-t-w it's great the 2nd and 3rd time you watch it too :)
