The movie is all about guy getting the girl, which is typical. It however also has a negative moral aspect with stealing, doing drugs, under age sex. As if these were not bad messages to send kids as it is, the movie depicts two very corrupt police officers who deliver the booze to clearly underaged kids. It get's worse and more dangerous. At one point they have to get past the antagonist and they do so by baking brownies with a large bag of random drugs. When the antagonist clearly is under the influence, we find him driving to the hospital as he clearly is not feeling well. As if risking the antagonist's life was not bad enough, there are several scenes where handguns are recklessly handled and passed around in the middle of a large party. Think of every taboo that parents want to keep teenagers away from and this movie has them. I don't consider myself to be a prude, but on the same note it is easy to have the story end with everyone being ok in the movie. It becomes much harder in real life. I'm all in it for a good laugh and a little blurring of the moral lines. This movie however has no morals to blur.

Okay ignore all these reviews I accidentally found this movie on Netflix. At the time I had no clue what it was about and I absolutely love this film. First off it captures the spirit of summer so well. The cinematography is beautiful bright reds and blue selling that American summer feel. Second, the characters this is one of the only movies that portray teens in an accurate way. Every character has a great personality and there isn't anything about them to hate. Yes it's just a teen girl conquest comedy. But this is the only one where the main character doesn't get the girl. I have probably watched this movie over 100 times I show it to everyone who I know and they always love it . Staten island summer is the perfect summer time film that deservs a blue ray release.

Silly, goofy, reminds me of the 80s teen flicks i grew up with. Don't overthink it or get 'PC', just relax and have a good laugh.
