The original 'Thing' was released in 1951 as The Thing From Another World. It starred Kenneth Tobey and James Arness as the THING It is believed that Howard Hawks directed and scripted the movie, He never took credit for it. The film stands on its own with good writng. acting and natural thrills. Modern sci-fi and horror trappings didn't exist in 1951. Real movie making is what yuu got. The other movies are good but the 1951 version is a great movie. I've seen it at least 20 times. You will love it.

The thing was nothing special. Very predictable, very cheesy, and a typical modern horror movie. If you don't see this you won't miss a thing. If you liked it, then cheers. Other than the performances of the main to characters, the only good things I can think to say are the set piece and the special effects. But there's no twist you won't see coming, even the ''huge twist'' at the end. I would go more in depth, but honestly I don't think this movie deserves that. + Please note that I didn't see the original so I have no idea how well it reinvented that one; this is a fresh perspective.

Doesnt compete with the far superior 1982 John Carpenter version. While the effects are superior to its predecessor from 30 years earlier, they already look dated in 2016. This film lacks the buildup and suspense. There is no feeling if them being trapped. Some of the scare tactics are designed to make you jump, and they dont. This is neither a fright film, or a the psychological thriller it was intended to be. Sadly disappointed.
