It is a cute fictional animal adventure about Benji ( a mutt), who has been separated from his owner (Frank Inn), and found himself lost in the wilderness in the pacific northwest, until he finds a litter of orphaned mountain lion cubs who have lost their mother because of a stereotypical hunter. So it's up to Benji to take responsibility and take care of these cougar cubs while he tries to get back to his owner's arms as soon as possible. Out in the wilderness, there are some menacing foes, But there is one threat that became the primary villain: a vicious lone black timber wolf. Benji also encounters another mother cougar with only one cub, who confuses Benji until there is a plot twist of which I am not going to spoil of course. The themes of this film is taking responsibility, heroism, orphanage, and loneliness. Most of this movie is so cute, utterly captivating, and vey entertaining; I find it very pleasing when Benji takes care of the cougar cubs with all of his determination and his brand new maternal instincts that came to his mind, as well as protecting them by taking on any threat that comes near the cubs by using an enormous amount of courage, quick wits, and strategy. Now this is what I call a real "underdog" story. The writing and direction by Joe Camp is astounding, because the way that Joe Camp tells the story is by making the structure of the film very effective by using a dynamic range of filming techniques to make it so thorough or fully detailed. The filming techniques that he uses is mostly when the camera zooms in for a close up shot. He also has some great planning for how each element should be timed. He is very good at setting up any scene that makes me let my guard down until, Boom! I got some frightful shock value. And some of the imagery has anyone or anything in the foreground and the background by either fading the background or the foreground, and moving the camera around. Another aspect that enhances the storytelling is the quirky 80s music score by Betty Box and Euel Box. The animals on set are very well-trained and they were not harmed in the making of this film. In conclusion: A very engrossing and utterly engaging underdog drama that will appeal and truly entertain the whole family with kids. Highly Recommended!
