About this movie

Famed scholar, author, inventor and prophet H.G. Wells chases Jack the Ripper, one of the most feared serial murderers of all time, from 19th-century London to modern-day San Francisco in this science fiction thriller. When Jack the Ripper (David Warner) flees across time in one ofH.G. Wells' (Malcolm McDowell) inventions, Wells follows him to the 20th Century. Now, in a city and a time completely unknown to him, Wells must find a way to stop the Ripper from continuing his streak of murders.

One of my personal favorites, a fanciful imagining of the possible life of one of the greatest science fiction authors H.G. Wells. Wells was truly a man ahead of his time and this movie puts forth the notion that perhaps he really did travel to the future. Malcolm McDowell is exemplary playing the legendary Wells, as is David Warner as Jack The Ripper. A sad commentary of our times occurs when The Ripper observes that "ninety years ago I was a freak, today I'm an amateur." All in all, a good movie, ably directed by Nicholas Meyer, with a good soundtrack to match.

One of my all-time favorites. McDowell is delightful and charming as Wells. David Warner is brilliant as the cold and sociopathic 'Ripper'. The dated special effects are fun to watch. There is plenty of late 1970s nostalgia. And San Fran is a gorgeous backdrop for the film.

Tremendous fun, but also deftly acted and rather sweet at the same time. Irresistibly charming when it clicks and a fun fantasy romp. The best time-travel movie ever.
