One could say if you dropped Tosh.0 comedian Daniel Tosh in a ski suit in the middle of zombie infested Austrian Alps, you might end up with the script for Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies. The new flick from Dominik Hartl is a spirited attempt at adding something new to the zombie-comedy. In a sub genre as worked over as this, Hartl nails it. Playing off a horror basis, his comedic spin reroutes Lederhosen Zombies downhill making for some absurd gory fun. The story follows snowboard crew, Steve, Branka, and Josh who are in for the night of their lives after they wind up having to spend the night at a lone ski lodge when the occupants suddenly become infected by a zombie virus. Zombie Deer, decapitation to the tune of classical music, and a machine gun wielding grandmother are just some of the absurdities that make for a bloody good time you simply have to see for yourself.

The beautiful Austrian Alps make for an ironic background for this blood-splattering zombie flick. The irony of “Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies” only starts there though. I enjoyed the contrast of the dry humor and the horror of the zombies to create a spoofy film unlike one I have seen before. The cleverly written jokes had me laughing the whole time while the extreme fight scenes still had me jumping out of my seat a few times. It is a great watch for a casual night in!

Featuring an 80s-inspired synth-heavy soundtrack, this zombie slasher flick makes the genre cool again. “Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies” offers a familiar, chilly premise but a satisfying payoff to boot. The movie starts off stylishly—providing gorgeous vistas of the Austrian Alps—as our main protagonist, Steve (Laurie Calvert), and professional snowboarder shreds downhill. The snowy white vistas soon turn blood-red and green as a sudden outbreak of zombies threatens our protagonist and his band of root-able heroes. A charismatic cast and practical special effects make this movie stand out in a sea of wannabes.
