When your old Black matriarch dies of western disease, celebrate by carrying on the deadly tradition of high cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension by chowing down on the same crap. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Saw this as a teenager, and it's one of my favorite random picks from that time. The story may be more vanilla compared to a lot of black films from that time, but as a white teenage boy, it gave me just enough to springboard into other works with more nuanced black culture themes. It's odd to think that a Hallmark/Lifetime style film could make a difference, but films like For Colored Girls, Precious, and The Color Purple were so much more memorable as a result.
