Acclaimed writer/director John Sayles, Sunshine State, is set on a Florida island where real estate development is changing a modest beachside community into an upscale resort. Marly Temple (Edie Falco) is living her father's dream of running a motel, but now that her life consists of avoiding her ex-husband, nursing hangovers and waking up with the wrong guy, Marly is tempted to sell. Desiree Perry (Angela Bassett), returning after 25 years to show off her trophy husband (James McDaniel), finds their black enclave of Lincoln Beach is also being eyed by developers.
