About this movie

In 1975 Jacques Rivette embarked on his latest project, as ambitious as any that had come before. The plan was to make four features back-to-back, each in a different style and genre, and starring some of the leading names in world cinema. Only two would reach completion. The second, Noroît (une vengeance), was, in essence, a swashbuckler. Geraldine Chaplin, seeking to avenge the death of her brother, infiltrates a pirate gang headed up by Bernadette Lafont's Daughter of the Sun. Earning the trust of her fellow pirates one by one, she soon decides to challenge their leader and exact her revenge… Inspired jointly by The Revenger's Tragedy and Fritz Lang's Moonfleet, Noroît (une vengeance) is among the most beautiful of Rivette's features thanks to William Lubtchansky's stunning cinematography and Renée Renard's eye-catching costume designs. Pirates never looked quite so splendid. 2016 Arrow Films
