About this movie

The year is 1613, and William Shakespeare is acknowledged as the greatest writer of the age. But disaster strikes when his renowned Globe Theatre burns to the ground. Devastated, Shakespeare returns to Stratford, where he must face a troubled past and a neglected family. Haunted by the death of his only son, Hamnet, he struggles to mend the broken relationship with his wife and daughters. In so doing, he is ruthlessly forced to examine his own failings as a husband and father.

I've always thought that Kenneth Branaugh is best at performing and presenting Shakespeare to modern day audiences and this fine film is no exception. Suburb production down to the last detail and a plausible story line, work to fill in the many unknown parts of The Bard's Life. A touching, haunting and noble cinematic achievement. Most heartily recommended!

well cast but lackluster and without sizzle of any kind, lacking continuity and relation between characters. Very easy to fall asleep to.
