About this movie

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the completion of his 3-year-long contract with Lunar Industries, mining Earth's primary source of energy on the dark side of the moon. Alone with only the base's vigilant computer Gerty (voiced by Oscar-Winner Kevin Spacey, 1999 Best Actor, American Beauty) as his sole companion, Bell's extended isolation has taken its toll. His only link to the outside world comes from satellite messages from his wife and young daughter. He longs to return home, but a terrible accident on the lunar surface leads to a disturbing discovery that contributes to his growing sense of paranoia and dislocation so many miles away from home. Moon is an engrossing, intelligent sci-fi thriller that ranks with genre classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I liked this movie a lot. I can also understand the negative reviews. This movie is not for everybody. I would've liked the movie better if it was just Rockwell and Spacey. Made more sense when I re-watched it.

This movie tries to be "Gattaca" but with an anti-corporation slant instead. However, the story--especially the portrayal of computers/robots is so unrealistic it distracts from the main story-line.

A very rare piece of film for modern (or relatively recent) cinema. A slow burning psychological drama that takes a somewhat shaky premise (why would you really need a human on a station like that?) and takes it on a few interesting turns. A bit slow paced in spots but something of a rare treat in that it's a real original story of science fiction. It's not based on an IP and does a good job of being refreshingly different. Looking for lasers and evil aliens? Move on. But if you're looking for something that stimulates your mind and makes you question what it means to be alive and human - well this is a decent ride.
