Hunting Emma is bloody, it’s thrilling, it’s everything you could want from an outback crime thriller. Emma is the heroine every action movie needs. She’s cunning, she’s brave, and she’s determined to survive. After witnessing a gang of drug smugglers murder a man in the deserts of South Africa, Emma must fight if she wants to make it out of there alive. Leandie Du Randt is incredible in her role as Emma, really perfecting the Uma Thurman vibe, and she is going to be huge. The film does Deon Meyer’s novel complete and absolute justice, and I would highly recommend Hunting Emma to anyone who loves action and suspense in a film.

Hunting Emma was a fantastic female-led vengeance film, reminiscent of some of the best. If you are a fan of films such as Kill Bill, Mad Max: Fury Road, or Atomic Blonde, you’ll absolutely love Hunting Emma, with its story of revenge taken by a strong female lead. What I enjoyed most about it was the realism with which it handled this plot type. Emma is a believable, strong-willed woman, and her battles are not fought with super powers, but with intelligence and knowledge in true-to-life self-defense. An excellent performance by the very talented, Leandie Du Randt!!! Going to watch this one again!

Hunting Emma brings together the action, western, and international film genres in one overall thrilling film. The title of the film is basically an overall synopsis of the film in the way it follows an unexpected heroine’s quest of revenge and survival. Director Byron Davis combines the familiar with foreign in the way the film is set in a terrane that could resemble a terrane anywhere in the world but the only reminder to the viewers that this is an international film is the use of Afrikanese. Davis forces the viewers to put aside all perceived notions they've ever had about vulnerability, will-power and strength in a suspenseful span of an hour and forty minutes.
