The majority of the negative criticism is aimed at the animation. The only characters who I would say look objectively worse are Puck and Luca, and Puck still looks pretty ok. Aside from the rare close-up, I think the art is both beautiful and fitting. The great music score and plot are enough to want to watch this series. Going to the beginning, I prefer the approach to the Black Swordsman arc the anime took. The plot was strong, complex, and engaging in a short 24 episode span.

As a huge manga fan thats up to date on all 40 volumes, I can tell you to stay far away from this. I got to the end of the first season, and it's worse than torture. Had me crying at how immeasurably disappointed it made me. Who the heck saw this before it aired and was like "it's ready to go"??? They didn't. It's a stain on the franchise as a whole, and shouldn't exist. Read the manga or pass on this series as a whole. Anyone who likes this "ADAPTATION" must have ONLY seen Mars of destruction.

Loved the story in both seasons. I also watched all the movies and they were just as good, and they stay pretty true to the manga. The animation is bad but it's not horrible, and it really doesn't bother me at all. I grew up in the 80s, so I've seen plenty worse. I think that's the main reason for all the 1 star ratings, and if that's the case it shouldn't be rated 1 star just for bad CGI. Hopefully they make a season 3 soon, and make some improvements on their animation as well.
