In 1959, Vivian Bell came to Reno, Nevada for a quick divorce. Of all the people she met there, the one who surprised her the most was herself.

Vivian Bell, professor Engelse taal- en letterkunde, reist naar Reno (Nevada) om zich snel te laten scheiden van haar man. Ze logeert bij Frances Parker en wordt verliefd op haar lesbische stiefdochter Cay. De relatie die tussen de twee ontstaat doet het nodige stof opwaaien.
