Khadijah interviews fourth-grade teacher Alonzo Ford for an article honoring his selection as Teacher of the Year. They hit it off, and Alonzo quickly asks her out on a date. They spend nearly every free moment together for three weeks. After Max, Regine and Synclaire complain that Khadijah is neglecting them, she invites them to have dinner with Alonzo and her, but the couple doesn't show up. They re-schedule, but Alonzo and Khadijah ignore the girls and spend the entire evening babbling and kissing.
