WWF World Championship European Champion Shawn Michaels defeated World Champion Bret Hart to win the title after Vince McMahon gave the order to ring the bell, insisting that Hart had submitted to Michaels' sharpshooter. Hart had done no such thing.
Nevertheless, Michaels was awarded the world title.
