Richard Brooks (geboren als Reuben Sax) war ein US-amerikanischer Drehbuchautor, Filmregisseur, Romanautor und Filmproduzent. Er wurde im Laufe seiner Karriere für acht Oscars nominiert und war vor allem für seine Filme Die Saat der Gewalt (1955), Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach (1958), Elmer Gantry (1960), für den er den Oscar für das beste adaptierte Drehbuch gewann, Kaltblütig (1967) und Auf der Suche nach Mr. Goodbar (1977) bekannt.
