Vasiliy Grossman’s novel “Life and Destiny” is a violent charge against the Stalinist regime and totalitarianism. Confiscated by the KGB in October 1961, the manuscript of the book was locked up in the basement of the Lubyanka, the headquarters of the secret political police.
