Iconic buildings in Chandigarh

These four projects designed by studio ardete are in the same locality.

Hexalace - this is an open-plan commercial building made primarily for leasing purposes. In a tight commercial plot with challenging building norms, it became perceptible from the beginning that the concept would have to be manifested from the facade. Considering the arduous climatic conditions involving extreme heat, and the building front facing west, the façade emerged as a buffer of stratifying elements.

Never never cube -About this particular project, there stood a possibility of converting a small plot into something big by combining the two parcels of land, thereby creating a fractal system where the client felt the worth of the grandeur which will accelerate the rental income or the commercial value. Confirming to the local building norms, it is anopen laid out plan with fixed height which leaves the designer with the facade to romance with. A small - simple box which blooms in grandeur when you open it or a fancy wallet you unbutton to learn how sorted it would keep you. Such is architecture. So when 1607/08 were clubbed in sector 82 Mohali, the focus was diabolic; one, to keep the costs low; second, allowing the area a landmark.

Meltcrete - Meltcrete uses a series of curves more like a melting structure and also creates an illusion of a taller structure than of is Its subtle expresses concrete poetry in a subtle way for a office space row plot something which was started by Le Corbusier. The building had a very low cost of 1000 Rs/sqft, half the cost compared to the conventional building of its kind in the concrete way used as a primary material for the façade.

Tessalace -The building earned the name, “Tessalace” owing to its tessellated façade design. Oxford dictionary defines, tessellate – as a pattern of repeated shapes, especially polygons that fit together closely without gaps or overlapping. Visibly, the structure of the building is enveloped in a membrane of tessellated polygons, an array of solid and voids in tones of grey and white.
