Antioxydant, prétendument brûle-graisse, l’açaï est un super-fruit qui a envahi les bowls des influenceuses du monde entier. C’est le Brésil qui est le premier producteur et consommateur mondial de ce fruit, qui sert de base alimentaire aux communautés indigènes d’Amazonie depuis des siècles.
Mais depuis quelques années, l’or mauve quitte aussi le pays pour les Etats-Unis et l'Europe. Une aubaine pour des milliers de familles pauvres, qui cueillent l'açaï avec leurs enfants. Armés d’un couteau, et d’une simple corde aux pieds, ils grimpent sur des arbres qui peuvent atteindre jusqu'à 20 mètres, au péril de leur vie.
