Fred et Jamy nous entraînent à Lacq dans les Pyrénées Atlantiques où l'on trouve le plus grand gisement français de gaz en exploitation. Fred nous guide dans une usine où l'on extrait du gaz brut localisé à 3500 m de profondeur. Accompagné d'un géologue, il nous explique comment prospecter les poches de gaz et détecter la présence d'hydrocarbures. Il continue son périple dans une usine de mise en bouteille du butane et du propane (G.P.L: gaz de pétrole liquéfié); puis dans un gazoduc dont nous découvrons le fonctionnement. Fred part pour Montoir de Bretagne visiter un méthanier qui transporte le gaz sous forme liquide refroidi à -163 °. De retour en ville, il part à la chasse aux fuites de gaz avec un véhicule renifleur. Jamy nous explique ce que le gaz, comment il s'est formé dans le sous-sol, comment faire remonter le gaz naturel dans un réservoir, comment garder le gaz liquide en bouteille et pourquoi le gaz cause des explosions.
