Hamaji gets chased and bitten on the leg by a stray dog on the way home from school. Since someone else has seen the dog near the school too, Maruko and the others are terrified, knowing it may still be around. They think the schoolyard ought to be safe—but then the stray dog appears there as well and comes after Maruko. What will become of her?
