The Civil Guard located Llanos' body, but neighbors also prowled the area and rumors about what could have happened were circulating in the town. At the funeral, Alonso, brother of the deceased, appears and blames Manuel for the misfortune. The Civil Guard took Manuel into custody. He can be sentenced to death if they fail to prove his innocence. María receives an unexpected visit from Alonso. He comes to propose to collaborate with him and do justice. According to him, the Cervantes deceived his sister. If he accepts, he will be able to have a large part and be free. Maria sets a trap and the police arrest the real murderer of Llanos and Manuel is free. In private, Manuel tries to get closer to María but they are interrupted by a phone call; Guillermo, Maria's brother, has typhus. Ready for the trip, she looks for Manuel to take her to the station, but surprises him in the stable with Justa.
