Capítulo 6

María returns with Manuel to La Mancha, the car breaks down and they spend the night on a farm owned by a foreign couple who receive them delicately. Maria and Manuel give themselves to love for the first time. On his return, Manuel asks Justa to leave the farm and she swallows her resentment. María and Pepita deduce that Claudia is pregnant when they see her nausea. María meets Justa and although she does not forgive her for her betrayal, she tries to maintain a certain cordiality, but Justa does not give up and takes advantage of Claudia's wedding to snoop around the Cervantes' house.
