Während Kollege Steiner für seinen ersten Auftritt als "Verkehrskasper" probt, werden Dirk und Tanja zu einem Verkehrsunfall gerufen. Ein Porschefahrer hat ein kleines Mädchen beim überqueren einer Fussgängerampel erfasst. Das Kind ist schwer verletzt. Dirk findet Hinweise darauf, dass der Fahrer während der Fahrt telefonierte und dadurch abgelenkt war. Der Fahrer hingegen behauptet, das Mädchen sei bei Rot über die Ampel gelaufen. Um die Wahrheit herauszufinden, spricht Dirk mit der Freundin des Fahrers, deren Nummer als letzte im Display des Autotelefons gespeichert war. Aber die Frau deckt ihren Freund. Nachdem der Fall in die Zeitung gekommen ist, erhält der Fahrer zunächst anonyme Anrufe, dann unverhohlene Morddrohungen. Der Fahrer beschuldigt Dirk Matthies, hinter diesen Drohungen zu stecken. Dirk und Tanja müssen nun beweisen, dass der Porschefahrer in jeder Hinsicht die Unwahrheit sagt.
