The successful novelist Regina Schilling mysteriously disappears from her Berlin apartment, which she has not left for years in self-imposed isolation. The statements of the only witness who observed her disappearance through the window to the courtyard are of little help to inspectors Irene Gaup and Julia Jungklausen, because the 86-year-old photographer Erik Hamann suffers from dementia. Only his Polish nurse Beata can help to decode the confused statements. In Regina's apartment, the detectives actually find signs of a fight and traces of blood.
