At that time, New York was under siege from German submarines. A match is struck in the night. In the flame's faint glow, the magnificent Art Deco interior of this luxury liner takes shape. A pile of life jackets catches fire, the flames spread rapidly. A thick cloud of smoke covers the harbor and then the entire island.
SS Normandie, the largest, most beautiful and fastest liner in the world, sinks in a few hours.
This film is an opportunity to delve back into a little-known historical event; back when conspiracy theories and false rumors were not yet called “fake news”. The official investigation concluded that it was a catastrophic accident. But in a climate of collective paranoia where fear of the stranger, the spy and the saboteur blurred the line between reality and fiction, the wreck of the SS Normandie became the focal point of an entire country’s nightmares.
