Thomas Gautier, kinésithérapeute, est retrouvé poignardé dans son cabinet. Des mots d'amour destinés à une patiente sont retrouvés sur le disque dur de son ordinateur. Au cours de l'enquête, la police découvre que Nathalie Gautier, la femme de la victime, avait des raisons de vouloir se débarrasser de lui. Une patiente de Gautier, Chloé Sobel, en phase terminale d'une maladie incurable, a récemment disparu. Comme le soignant militait en faveur de l'euthanasie, il est possible qu'il ait poussé sa patiente, qui devait sans doute aussi être son amante, à se donner la mort. C'est d'ailleurs ce que croit la mère de Chloé, Monique Sobel, qui est, elle, farouchement opposée à l'euthanasie...
