Officier van justitie, Suze Geleijnse, informeert Valentijn over het bericht dat er valse Breitners in omloop zouden zijn.
Het onlangs door Valentijn aangeschafte schilderij 'Meisje in Kimono', ook een Breitner, blijkt eveneens vals te zijn.
Valentijn gaat samen met Suze naar het Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag op zoek naar informatie over de valse Breitners. In het museum opent een tentoonstelling van Igor Khvastun, de baanbrekende Russische kunstenaar die beelden van overleden menselijke lichamen maakt. Bij de opening blijkt één van de beelden van de veilingmeester te zijn.
Hij is niet op een natuurlijke manier aan zijn einde gekomen. Valentijn gaat op onderzoek uit maar krijgt hierdoor meer problemen dan antwoorden…
