Carmen comienza a entrometerse demasiado en la vida familiar de Lucía, Diego y los chicos. Diego, molesto al ver que su suegra da dinero a sus hijos a escondidas, se queja a su mujer. Ella asegura a su esposo que hablará con su madre. Poco después, Lucía pide a su progenitora que se mantenga un poco más al margen de su vida, pero Carmen, que conoce bien a su hija, acaba chantajeándola para intentar quedarse a vivir con la familia Serrano.
Por otro lado, el ex-marido de Lucía, que había prometido llevar a Eva y a Teté a París, comunica a sus hijas en el último momento que no van a poder ir. Para animarlas, Diego llega a casa con una sorpresa: ha comprado billetes de avión para que todos viajen a la capital francesa.
Mientras, Santiago y Diego administran el dinero para cubrir los gastos y el primero recrimina a su hermano las facturas por pagar que aún arrastra de su boda. Santiago sugiere a Diego que se apriete el cinturón, ya que el restaurante donde celebró el banquete nupcial está reclamando el dinero. Diego coge un sobre para pagar al restaurante, pero Lucía le avisa de que se ha roto una tubería en casa y que todo está empantanado, por lo que el hombre acaba pagando al fontanero con el dinero del banquete. Esta decisión no sólo provoca un monumental enfado entre Santiago y Diego, sino que además el ansiado viaje a París corre el peligro de no poder realizarse.
