Je dois vous avouer une chose : Jane Austen, ça ne me disait trop rien. Mais mon équipe a sauté au plafond et m’a dit “Quoi ? Mais elle est trop connue, ça fait 250 ans qu’elle est née cette année et ces romans ont été adaptés partout, c’est une superstar !” Il a fallu que j’accepte qu'apparemment c’était un trou dans ma culture, et on a donc décidé de lui consacrer un épisode, parce que vous êtes peut-être dans le même cas que moi ! À première vue, la vie de Jane Austen semble plutôt dénuée d’intérêt. Elle est loin de l’agitation et des grands événements de son temps, comme en fait la majorité d’entre nous aujourd’hui. Et c’est pareil pour ses romans et ses personnages. De son propre aveu, elle préfère parler de ce qu’elle connaît et côtoie. Bref, du quotidien. Et c’est justement ça qui est hyper intéressant avec son œuvre : car qui sait lire entre les lignes découvre alors toute la société de son époque…
