Görlitz, Grenze zu Polen: Hier betreiben die Gebrüder Lustig ein Fuhrunternehmen. Das Geschäft läuft mehr schlecht als recht, denn die Konkurrenz ist groß, besonders durch die polnischen Billiganbieter. Uwe Lustig, der geschäftstüchtigere der beiden, sucht ständig nach praktischen Wegen für das Überleben des Geschäfts, während sich Lothar Lustig, der Ältere, bloß über theoretische Umstrukturierungsmaßnahmen Gedanken macht. So kommt es, dass sich Uwe auf dubiose Geschäfte mit den Polen einlässt und beginnt, Rauschgift zu schmuggeln. Monika, Lothars Frau, die die Geschäfte des Unternehmens führt, fragt nicht, woher das Geld kommt. Eines Tages wird Uwe tot aufgefunden, und was keiner sehen wollte, kommt ans Licht. Kommissar Beck hat alle Hände voll zu tun, den Mord aufzuklären und den Schmugglern das Handwerk zu legen, besonders erschwert dadurch, dass ihm Zollamtmann Weißer immer wieder mit seinen Ratschlägen dazwischenfunkt.
