Es sind natürlich keine touristischen Motive, die die beiden Hallenser Kommissare zum Kyffhäuser führen. Das Denkmal ist der Tatort eines Verbrechens. Im Schoß des Kaisers Barbarossa liegt eine männliche Leiche. Schnell lässt sich die Identität des Toten feststellen. Prof. Welfen, Dekan der medizinischen Fakultät von Halle, wurde die Kehle durchgeschnitten.
