Wojciech Sekula lebt mit seinem Sohn Tomasz und seiner Frau Jenny auf einem Bauernhof in Zimowe Pole nahe der Oder. Jenny ist unglücklich in dem kleinen polnischen Dorf und würde am liebsten mit Mann und Stiefsohn in Deutschland, wo sie herkommt, neu anfangen. Doch ihr Mann ist nicht für die Idee zu begeistern. Eines Nachts werden alle Kühe des Familienbetriebs brutal getötet. Kinder finden einen abgetrennten Finger auf dem Feld. Und kurz darauf stirbt Wojciech nach einem erneuten Überfall auf seinen Hof.
