Over the last 27 years, even in protected areas, the number of insects has fallen by more than 75%. An alarm signal, because fewer insects could soon mean fewer fish, lizards, birds and mammals. Insects are the foundation of a healthy nature. They are pollinators for flowering plants, keep pests at bay and are food for many animals. If the insects die, other animals and many plants also threaten to disappear.
