Chapter 10
José Inácio brings an image of Our Lady to Maria Santa from Ilhéus. Maria Santa tells José Inocêncio that she is pregnant and asks her husband that Jacutinga be with her when she gives birth. Deocletian realizes that Morena is pregnant. Maria Santa and Morena intensify their friendship. Nine months pass. Jupará brings Jacutinga at the behest of Maria Santa to help her with the birth.
