Der Investmentbanker Eduard Kossmann wird erschlagen in seinem Garten gefunden. Sein Kollege Thomas Perlinger gerät ins Visier der Ermittler. Er hat zweifelhafte „Robotikfonds“ vermittelt. Besagte Fonds haben eine Laufzeit von 30 Jahren und gingen ausnahmslos an betagte Kunden, die die Gewinnausschüttung wahrscheinlich nie erleben werden. Zu diesen Kunden gehört auch Magdalena von Trenkler, die Kossmann deshalb zur Rede stellte. Sie muss feststellen, dass Kossmann von den dubiosen Machenschaften seines Kompagnons nichts wusste.
