Franks ehemalige Klassenkameradin Katrin Lawin, die in einem Forschungslabor arbeitet, fühlt sich von einem Stalker bedroht. Sie glaubt auch zu wissen, um wen es sich dabei handelt, nämlich um ihren Arbeitskollegen Kai Grube. Doch die SOKO Köln kann nicht eingreifen, so lange der Mann sich nichts zu Schulden kommen lässt. Als eine Arbeitskollegin von Katrin beim abendlichen Joggen erschossen wird, ist sich Franks Bekannte sicher, dass der Mordanschlag eigentlich ihr gegolten hat, denn das Opfer trug Katrins Jacke. Frank, der Katrins persönlichen Schutz natürlich gern und aufopferungsvoll übernimmt, findet heraus, dass der vermeintliche Stalker Kai weder als Stalker noch als Mörder in Frage kommt. Die SOKO konzentriert sich nun auf Katrins Chef Ernst Schnabel und ihren schon fast zu gut gelaunten Nachbarn Lutz Eggers. Es könnte aber auch sein, dass der Mord an Katrins Freundin gar nichts mit einem Stalker zu tun hat. Und vielleicht handelte es sich dabei auch gar nicht um eine Verwechslung.
