Köln in Angst: Ein maskierter Serientäter, der "Schwarze Mann", überfällt und vergewaltigt Frauen und verletzt dabei sein letztes Opfer schwer. Die Kölner Ermittler übernehmen den Fall. Bei einem neuerlichen Überfall eilt ein junger Mann, Klaus Schilling, dem Opfer zu Hilfe. Und tötet in Notwehr den Angreifer. Der Fall scheint geklärt. Doch dann findet die SOKO heraus, dass der Getötete, der obdachlose Josef Leitner, nicht der Schwarze Mann sein kann. Zur weiteren Fahndung nach dem Serien-Vergewaltiger kommt somit die Frage, was es mit dem Überfall Leitners auf die junge Evi Heymann auf sich hatte. War er ein Trittbrettfahrer? Handelte es sich um einen missglückten Raubüberfall?
